Description

When I make these relief-sculptures I photograph them with the light coming from several angles, then choose the one which works best. A couple of months after I made "Drowning Reaper" I took some close-up shots of various sections of it from a different angle of light - then last night I took one of these shots in Photoshop and played around with overlaying textures and tints to give it a darker atmosphere. It makes the "reaper" itself more up-close-and-personal anyway ;-) Thank you so much again for taking a look and any feedback is much appreciated :-) If you like you can click here to see the full original canvas.

This one really comes to life with this lighting & colour Jim, love the way the light brings out the detail & adds so much atmosphere & a sense of animation to the image, must be fascinating to watch these change all the time!

There's something menacing about this, but it's hard to put my finger on it. Something just beyond consciousness. Nice one, Jim!

This one I like the best of them all, it has a mystic, almost dramatic quality. The light really creates here.

This series of closeups are really amazing. I find myself going through a similar process sometimes :-) I wonder what would happen if you pushed this even further by tweaking certain areas in photoshop to bring out some more surreal content and actual forms? maybe that would bring it a little out of the abstract realm you seem to have intended for this, but i think it would be interesting!
