Description

The cirrus clouds appear to have some effect in the sky. In the western sky the clouds grow gradually thicker but here they are still thin. The sundog you see here (I zoomed in with telelens) is one of those parhelia that show up frequently. There is a fantastic website, http://www.sundog.clara.co.uk/halo/parhelia.htm, which does not only explain this phenomenon but describes a wide variety of frequent and rare phenomenons in the sky (and they even have some stunning simulation software that can be downloaded freely) as well. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 300 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Marvellous, Jan-Carel. As Hotracer says it looks like a feather. Maybe even God's old-fashioned feather-quilled dip pen. I wonder what He is going to write. Regards, John.

Remarkable photo, JC! The website you mention is a very good one -- and the free software downloads (HaloSim and IRIS) which simulate halos (sundogs, fogbows, moonbows, etc.) are loads of fun to use. I highly recommend it!

Another superb shot of this Sun Dog Jan-Carel. Thank you for the links too.... I prefer this shot to your previous, perhaps because of the form of the clouds, I see a giant bird and the Sun Dog is on his head... Do you see what see ???? lol. Superb done ! Hugs my friend. V
