Description

Shot Monday, Feb 27, 2006. The goal was to recreate World War 2 era (1940s) pin-ups and Military Aircraft nose-art of the time as best as possible with limited resources. The shoot was shot with a High Key backlight and purposly trying to make the models look more washed out for an artistic painted mimic. Turned out very well! Model is Elizabeth Ashley. Great great model, she's one of the best I've ever worked with. Fantastic ideas and a pleasure to photograph! This one was a bit different. After we shot the one with her behind the table, we tried to think of a way to get her on the table for the same type of shot. So, we improvised and took it this way. Granted, there are no real pin-ups in this way from the 1940s, I wanted a few unique poses as well out of these shoots to call my own! So, she hopped up on the table and we figured out this to look pretty good. At first I tried to figure out how to keep her centered in the frame, but to do that would mean the .50 Cal would be pointed directly at the camera, and that just didn't look right. The .50 Cal needed to always have a slight angle to it or it'd look weird and not like a machine gun. I also took a few where I pulled out further getting the ammo box and making her center, but it just didn't have the same effect as this. Personally, even though she's off center, I rather like this one a lot. It was her idea to pull the top uniform shirt open a bit more (don't ask me how she got it to stay that way, I have no idea... there's no tape involved here). So, a bit different than the previous ones I've posted from this series, but one of my favorites. Taken with a Canon Rebel EOS 5D (12mp) and Canon 28-105mm USM lens. Shot at a studio where I work in Anaheim, CA.

Great! It seems she's armed and dangerous!!! My dad was a tail gunner on a B-17 in WWII and he did the nose art for his plane named "JUDY". I have always had an interest in nose art and dad has some books about it. You did a great job!!! Kudos!!! :o)b

Nah, more like 'Early 70s Revisited'. No way would that BDU be open that far in the 40s. It would be missing altogether! The pose and the flower make this one look like Vietnam era stuff. Great job!
