Description

This photograph shows a young elephant bull's perspective from a car. Despite being a huge animal it moves quietly and no crackling sound escapes from underneath their feet. They also have unique footprints. An elephant is the largest land animal and can weigh as much as 100 full-grown men. It can turn off it's stomach's growling digestive noises when danger lurks. These noises can be heard as far as 200m (600ft)! Yes, your tummy will also make such noises if you try and eat 350kg (770lbs) of food per day! Talk about greedy! *LOL* An elephant can live up to 70 years. Be sure to look at my previous pic posted regarding elephant culling, titled "Africa - the hunter". Thank you for taking time to look at this series. Feel free to make comments & recommendations.

I am just amazed how large he is! I am thinking Mammoth and Ice Age, now. lol I suppose the silent walking became a necessity in the wild. Pretty cool capture, Piet!!

I think elephants are just great, but I wouldn't want one for a pet. I also wouldn't want to be this close to a young bull. Super capture!

Super shot! They are tremendous fellows, but hard to ride as they are covered with very course hair that really digs into the skin. Been there done that-not fun.

claudialee: Very valid point, you should have been given adequate protective material to prevent that from happening.

Ha ha, you should most certainly suffer from hyperthyreoidy when digesting this rate of food without showing any signs of obesity LOL! Elephants are great, they show character and can be great friends with human beings! Beautiful capture of this giant, Piet, a thrilling experience to observe them this close! :)

Interesting facts about the elephant's stomach noises. Great image too...fun to see the elephant using the modern roadway, much like a car or truck. =]

what I think is astonishing is to see an elephant in it's natural habitat, instead of a zoo. outstanding capture. good you was in a car that could out run this giant

LOL about their stomach noises.Well that is a pretty large stomach, and being all full of roughage, who can blame them, lol.Awesome shot,Piet.I love elephants....such amazing creatures they are.You captured him beautifully. The closest I've gotten to one is at the circus,(which I'm not that crazy about),and after that I started calling them the smellophants...because man, they smelled nasty!I'm assuming they don't smell like that in the wild,at least I hope they don't!Have agreat one!-M :^)
