Everywhere people with camera's find their way in this world to make their shots. I like the art of taking realistic pictures, because it provides a way to show how I experience this world. It is a way for other people to look through my eyes.Nature ... exists primarily for her face, her look, her appeals to the heart and the imaginationGeorge MacDonaldJan-Carel Vierbergen
Picture courtesy of Ruut WegmanBIOIt is all in the family: love for hiking in the nature. Since my childhood I'm used to walk with father, brothers, cousins, etc., and take pictures (Minolta X-700 with 28-70 mm and 100-300 mm zoom) of what I see. I grew up in Ede (The Netherlands), studied Electrical Engineering in Eindhoven and I am working now as Coordinator e-learning at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (http://www.che.nl) where I implement digital assessments for students and assist students in DTP and creating websites.
Since I know little about photographing as well as computer science it was not difficult to find ways for putting images on the web. The only thing to look for now is to find ways for showing the slides in a convenient way. I tried already something at http://www.che.nl/users/jcv (Dutch only, click at Dia's van de natuur in Nederland en de Alpen), but this platform provides good means to share my pictures with others.
I hope you enjoy this!

Again, I have a preference for the auto colour version. As suggested by Geert, as comment on your yesterday posting, I have given it a try to work with fade colours ........ indeed a fantastic tool!!. Have a nice day!! Henk

Jan-Carel, if you first duplicate the layer, and you apply the Auto Levels to the upper layer, you can still adjust this layer to determine how much of the effect you want (layer opacity), and the little drop down menu (that says Normal) lets you choose Luminosity to apply only the contrast without the colors.

Okay now I like the levels one except for the blue patch up the top maybe some soft selective desaturation? Lovely to see things I don't normally see :D

The autolevels didnt cause as much of a drastic change on this one as it did on yesterdays. Today i think i prefer the original blue tinted ice. What happens if you use auto-curves? Will probably end up looking pretty much like the right one. Excellent demonstration once again JC. Have a dandy day. #:O)

good to know! both are lovely... I maybe like more the second one. Ice patterns are always beautiful in light!

This time I like the one on the right, blue being my favorite colors, also like the texture better:):):)...V

Even in PS version 7 there is the Fade level adjustment available under the 'edit' menu. I use a version 7 and I learnt about this only yesterday.

yes, It's very well this diference of color.. I like very much ;) Kiss

These ones are maybe more impressive than the ones of yesterday. I'm amazed by this texture, it reallys seems crystal and not ice ! and as yesterday, I prefer the second one, near to a black and white, and where there are so many details more than the first one. A very good experience all this shots ! Have a nice day Jan-Carel. Hugssssssssssssssssss V

i still like the natural blue tone of the original!

Again, I prefer the image on the left, though I cannot complain about the one on the right. It's just that the left image looks so much more pure (clean). Another excellent collage Jan, thanks for giving us all two different ways of looking at the same thing! Have an awesome day buddy!

A crystalline fantasy! I think of post work autolevels much as I do the automatic exposure setting on my camera: fine for many things, but not necessarily 'right' or 'the best' for a particular photo. There is no substitute for the photographer's keen eye or good artistic judgment. Maybe only science text books need that degree of detail or sharpness. This (the one on the left) is another beautiful capture, Jan-Carel.

Biggest difference for me is it has balanced the colour to neutral. I prefer to do this with curves but levels or auto levels does it too.

After staring at it for a while, I'm seeing little eyes on the top right of both pictures. Excellent shot. Aloha

The bluish one certainly looks best to me - the other one has a hint of yellow in it which makes me perceive the snow as dirty... Something in between would probably look best though. The unending variations of structure in ice and snow is fascinating. Very nice work!

Fading is just simple, you apply autolevels to a second layer and set opacity to 50 % or whatever befor you flatten the layers. Fantastic capture ! Excellent work !!! V

Once again I would choose the one on the left and that's only because it's more natural feeling to me. Fantastic point you've made though.

decisions decisions.. uhhhhh... blue!!! :D

cool looking

Yeah, the one on the left does feel cleaner, Jan-Carel. We had lots of snow recently and I did not take a single photo. I wish that I had. I always find that my eyes see so much more detail and breadth of vision, in comparison to my wee digital camera ( NISUS MV6 ). I use Photoshop Elements 4 in order to sort out some effects for my cards, but do not have time to experiment. Have a great weekend, John.
