Description

On this location I find some neat ice-crystals, with almost the same size as the last time I found them. When I scan the slide and perform the normal operations to the scanned picture I obtain the left picture; the right picture appears when I apply autolevels in Photoshop. Although the colors are less natural the details are shown better. What one do you prefer? Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 70 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

I like the left one, because it looks more natural. There isn't enough extra detail on the right to change my mind. Excellent macro shot in either color, though.

Stick with the left hand one I think. Would a slight increase in contrast bring out more detail?

If you apply 'Auto Color' in Photoshop, and directly after that you choose 'Fade Auto Color', and you slide down to 'Luminosity', you will keep the original colors, but the details will show better. Just try this and see if you like it that way. (in fact you will get the colors of the first, and the contrast of the second). --Geert

I definitly prefer the one with auto-levels. I pretty much always apply that to my photos. Or i use the eyedropper tool. Perfect example of the power of Photoshop, even with the simpliest of effects. Have a great day buddy. #:O)

From an artistic point of view, I prefer the picture on the left. It has got more 'vibes', my friend [augurken met slagroom, LOL]! Have a good day, J.C.!

While the right one is prettier,no doubt,(the colors remind me of the sea),the one on the left is my preference. It's more natural, and the way we see it,as well.If they were part of a larger picture it would then depend on what you were going for.Sometimes you need those colors and details.Other times,it's about naturalness.Perhaps a combo of the two?

I have a preference for the autolevel version, more the impression of transparrency , and I like the details of the ice crystals, which makes for me,in the end the photo!! Have a nice day!! Henk

I prefer the right one. The details are more visible and the ice crystals are more impressive. PS is such a versatile tool! Thank you for sharing.

Excellent work Jan! I must say that in spite of the fact that the image on the left has a bit less detail than the one on the right. I like the image on the left best. I'm wondering if a hint of contrast wouldn't have brought out some of the detail without losing the natural colour!? Splendid work none-the-less my friend. Have a most excellent day!

I like the left one, insted of using the autolevel why not try just using brightness and contrast, thats what I do when autolevel doesn't do what I want....have a great day.....=)

That's another mystery of photoshop,l ol ! I had similar results with my shots of Lapland and the snow. Anyway, I prefer the second one, more natural and with more details about this ice crystal. Good idea to show us the two version Jan-Carel. 2 differents visions about the same subject, and it seems something else ;o)))) Lovely ! Have a nice day my friend. Hugs.

I like the first one. The right one makes the ice look "dirty". I always prefer less doctored photos. Love the sparkly details.

They are both beautiful but I think I like the one on the right the best. Really close call though. :-0

Well...I would believe the second one was the capture without postwork levels.. It's my prefered, cause seems paradoxaly real about color snow...the first is so clean...not uninteresting also Excellent presentation JC

I thought at first you were like myself and used filters on your lens. At the end of the day, it is hard to choose which one looks better. Each one has its own story and feeling, yup I like both.

I prefer the right one, but I think you could have reduce the effect to 50% to mix both photos! Excellent job! Bravo!!!

Hard to choose...I would say do a 50% merge of the two and it would be perfect. Excellent icy image Jan-Carel!
