It was a dream within a dream
That I was in your arms
It was hope against all hopes
That you would come tonight.
I ran through rain, I ran all night
I searched the corridors of time
I whispered softly, cold and blue
"I love thee true."
There was no answer, no reply
Not even echoes bouncing back
So I fell down, all cold and blue
"And yet I love thee true."
The dream was over, the spell broken
I lay awake and shook; no token
Of you around me, in my life
I'll have to get it right.
So now, while walking on the street
I see your face restrained
And distantly I think of you
"I loved thee true."
