Description

Late September in the high mnts. A pleasant scene. Some green grasses still show. Small patches of snow from last year. Trees, a healthy green. Stream still flows. All this belies what is on the horizon, what is coming in. 1st snow storm of the season. The barometer has been falling for 4 days. Sweeping up from a valley, gaining strength and speed from the inverse winds, slicing across the low plains. The animals have gone to ground, Elk and deer have headed down. The other small creatures have doubled their gathering efforts over the last 2 days. They know that this one will be a bad one. This one promises to make the storm of 1886 look like Hawaii in June.
