Description
Towards the end of a very trying day........!
A gaggle of old and new B17's huddle together for mutual protection.
This one's for you Dwayne. We all respect your courage and fortitude.
Thanks for looking at my images folks. Your comments are always helpful.

OK, so I read your early comments and I have complied. Now what?

Excellent image. The planes in the foreground are backlit a little more, but certainly we want to see the damaged aircraft.

Great image, but that damaged B17 really ought to be streaming smoke & oil!

This looks amazing and I like the way that they are flying towards the sunset. Now if you'd like for a few critiques I'll go ahead and give them. The first thing I noticed when looking at the planes is that their props didn't show any type of blur type effect from them spinning. One other thing that would help them look more realistic is if you were to add a smoke type effect coming from each engine and maybe even some smoke from the last plane's tail rudder. I hope I didn't beat up your image too much, because I've never worked on any other models except humans. -James

Very nice! I do have to say though, a little smoke trailing from the damaged 17 would have really made the image. Otherwise, great job!!!

Hope the last one will make it ! Another beautiful picture from you !

JUST AWESOME!!!

It's remarkable how much damage a B-17 can take and keep flying!

@Lucterios: you may be right -- however if returning from a bombing run, might a straggler from another squadron 'join up' with these survivors? That tail damage is accurate. Flying Forts could sustain damage like that and still limp back to base (in the hands of a skilled flight crew). Looks like Dora (or was it Gustav?) got him. Superb render! My Vote

Fantastic! I am honored indeed. Thank you My friend. You ask "Now what?" Well - hard to improve upon perfection, but photo like detail and historical accuracy you present is certainly worthy of continuing. The German Air force was so dynamic in design that you could do one a day and never repeat a scenario if you chose.:-). For those who questioned the mixed tails: Bombers are westbound into a setting sun - I invite anyone to read the history of the B-17 daylight bombing runs and the horrid loss of life and aircraft. Top German Fighter pilots scored hundreds of kills - each. For many years my daily lunch partner was a retired AAF Colonel - who flew B-17s on daylight missions. Was shot down 3 times & spent over a year total with the french underground. Warren present visuals equal to many tales I have had the privledge of hearing. Thanks again my friend. Dwayne

I must admit that the addition of the smoke trail does not detract from the image. It is indeed faint enough to be believable, and not at all overdone. Very well done!
Lucterios
In fact in 1943 (period that this picture seems to have been taken, I can guess from the olive green painting of the bombers...), the Luftwaffe may have been strong enough to damage almost an entire fleet of Forts... So Your right, Denger, this picture could have been real ! ;-)
