Description

The shot is not that great for a gallery upload, competing with branches and choice of focus point. Yet, lighting was pretty good with morning sun gently lighting these funny, sociable and beautiful birds showing the yellow breast. The red "wax" look on the ends of wings is not visible. Waxwings simply do not come to my area. This is the second year they have appeared. I am blessed in that. The morning of the shot, a voice told me to take the tele to work. I did not. So, limited to under the tree with 120mm this is the best I could muster. 2 more days later with the tele and no birds..that figures about right! I will take the tele and hope these birds come back and I can get a close shot. All this is behind the place where I work. They came in groups of 20 or 30, landing and group just as large leaving. They fly in unison and often like on yo yo's. Neat, funny and lovely critters to see are the Waxwings. Rare in these parts.

Capturing ONE WaxWing would be something in itself! You UPPED the bar by getting this shot of a "flock" of 'em!

Wonderful! It really must have been difficult to get these little guys togather and sit still long enough to get this shot of them all chirping and smiling. Ususally can't even get people to do that.

Very well done under difficult shooting conditions. A difficult subject to photographe even under the best of conditions. Thats why I like taking my long lens everywhere I go. (All 13 lbs of it).
