Description

Chillon Castle is just oustide Montreux in Switzerland. This part of the country was conquered/liberated by the Bernese invasion of 1536. At the time, the castle belonged to the Dukes of Savoy who had left the castle nearly empty. When the Bernese army arrived, itdidn't have a siege-train or long enough ladders with which to climb the walls. The soldiers waited around for a couple of days until the ladders could be built (possibly sampling some of the products of the local vineyardsto keep themselves occupied). This gave plenty of time for the couple of caretakers and cooks to get on a boat and row to safety to the other (French) side of the lake. The castle has belonged to Switzerland ever since. ;-))

Montreux est aussi l'endroit ol'on compte le plus de fans de Deep Purple au monde... Et aussi la "perle du lan" comme disent les helviens, et aussi le pied des rochers de Naye comme disent les fans des pentes thermiques... Superbe photo!
