Description

Gouache on canvas - posted twice original size. ~*@*~ There are approximately 90 species of Bull Ants in Australia and I've found our local ones quite inspiring lately. It seems I'm not the only one, this image was painted from Jim's photograph which also seemed to inspire Nigel ~*@*~ Thank you for viewing and your thoughts are always appreciated. :)

What a talent you have for rendering, Cassie. I thought for a moment that it was a photo of the creature shot through an insect screen, as I once took a photo like that of a cicada. But no! Any museum of natural history would be keen to have you, I bet :-)

If it wasn't got the canvas textures on his back, I'd swear he was real and would scoot away if I tried touching him. Stunning work, sweetie, now let's hope they don't decide to invade the house! hugs

I like Bull Joes they have a real Australian sort of attitude about them. My brother got bitten on the nackers by one bloody hell he was pissed off but we all laughed of course.

With such a close up on the canvas, this has made me think of an embroidery piecegrin I'm always impressed with the sheer level of detail your talent can impart to the tinest of things. Here it's made the ant incredibly lifelike, with the depth given to him, and the rich colour. HUGS
