Description
This is the F-105 Thundercheif also known as the Thud. Also called the lead sled and a number of other things. I used to have a friend who was a crew cheif on one of these back in the 80's. He swore it was the greatest plane in the air force and it just got a bad rap. Thuds flew low and fast so I thought it would be cool to make it look like that did a little bit of masking and a lot of motion blur.
The process modeled the Thudd in Wigns 3d. The textures are made in Photoshop painter illustrator pencil pen used a scanner. (I ended up drawing the nose art by hand scanning it in and then coloring it in photoshop) Some artistic license was taken with a few things like the nose art is actually under the wing and much smaller on the thud so I wanted to have it larger.

Very nicely done! The blur effect is very good. Thanks!

Hats off to ya for this one.... One thing did they not use this in nam to flush out the sames? I thought they would fly fast and low like you stated to get the sames to lock in on them and fire, then other planes would attack the sames before the B52's did their thing. Way over the top alaround. Can you teach how to do nose art I had this idea in head for long long time for WWII bomber but need to beable to make the nose art myself.

heh..I've got a book somewhere called 'Thud', one of those wartime memoirs..itwas one of the heaviest fighters ever built. great modeling, like the speed effect. Note- any typos are the result of my @#$% Siamese having hisself in the way..:)

Love the "Chief"...the blur is fine, but should include some of the body, whatever it is,for the very reasons you would use blur, sense of motion...5 or 6 pixel width would make a huge difference!
Stoner
Really nice job on the planes textures and good modeling as usual

This is a great render of a super model. Well done!

Excellent work Dann-o. POV seems to be from another plane, so we will assume they were traveling at the same speed, and therefore no blur on the plane! ;)

This was a contemporary of the F-4 Phantom, and I think its service life was about the same duration? My father saw numerous examples of the "Thud" when they were flying out of Korat in '66-67. Very, very loud, was his comment. Nice work!
