Description

This shot was taken a couple of years ago when I was in New Orleans. This Sphinx guards a pyramid shaped crypt in the Metairie Cemetery. Some of the crypts there are amazing; this one how ever is probably my favorite. Negative was scanned and Photoshop was used to add my standard border, a bit of dodge & burn, and a slight Levels adjustment to remove scanner haze [pretty much my normal use of Photoshop where photography is concerned anymore... I do the same thing in the program that I would in a darkroom, and I don't have to reek of chemicals anymore :)]. The shot was taken using my Pentax K-1000, a 70-200mm telephoto lens (since retired due to it's lack of ability to stay focused... bloody thing made me begin to wonder if I needed glasses), on Illford ISO 400 XP 2 film. The face on the statue is so lifelike I was wondering if you imposed your picture into it... I like the way you juxtaposed it so it appears to be looking at you.

Not only is it well composed but the light levels are excellent, with the overall tones darkening toward the back.
