Description

Experimenting with just materials & I was impressed with the Highly varnished wood grain material I created using 5 textures. I`ll tweak the lighting & specularity as well as shadow bias as it may end up as a massive print for my living room (6ft x 2ft). Just decorated in warm woods & beige/browns with warm terracota ornamentals :-) At current the sky is plain. I was contemplating Volumetric clouds but it looked too Pink Floyd for a family room. So I`ll possibly add some gentle forms later. Mojo Primitives. TFV&C W

Very nice. Sometimes with lots of wood tones/textures a complimentary form like rocks in the foreground or perhaps mountains in the background might look good.

Great texture! Would you be able to get a displacment to match the texture? If you could, just slightly, it would finish off the the wood effect nicely....

Thanks for the comments. @ Gedwarderb I have thought about adding a few glass balls to compliment. @ Goose, yes I have thought about a slight displacement to show the grain "grooves" a little bit better.

Other then kind of 3Dish look of the highlights, this is very nice woodcraft.May be subtle displacements and highlight setup tweaking could help. Also it may be nice to have the scene light up by a few spotlights and not the Mojo sun.

@ Slav. I tried adding a spotlight after posting this last night as I find it has too many dark regions. I was looking for some kind of under-lighting to take the edge off of the shadows. Yes, the specularity is too harsh & I have Max & Multiply blends in my materials so thats having an impact. I just need to decrease the levels a tad or two :)I`ll post a followup for improvement comments later this week :) ---keep the comments coming---

Very cool. Try blending each of the texture components of your materials seperately if you think the blending method is messing something up. I usually blend colours, displacement etc seperately before any higher level of material blend. This means a blending method that works for say colour won't mess another part of the material up. I usually blend the final materials only for placement in the world not to alter their whole look. In fact I think some of my worlds only have one material. If you see what I mean.

@ Ryan. Yep...check Planet Shamiten at http://www.terranuts.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=17 for a better understanding of how I work with materials. Thx for the valued feedback.

That's a beautifull "wood grain" Woz!!...I agree a very subtle displacement might be a good idea (with the massive version in mind)....the specularity looks great on the left 3 spheres but as you say the right 4 look a bit harsh...anything added to your "plain sky" might effect the light a little but I'm not sure you need to change the sky...I kinda like the bold contrast it gives...though I could change my mind on seeing what you come up with...^_^..How about a faint "planet ring" up there??..in the correct position it could compliment the foreground lines very nicely...
