Description

Hello all ! Last week I took my kids to a park we waited in line . I was told that this shot today is of an actually real hand carved carousal horse from the 1920's! This particular carousal horse was the most beautiful I thought. But no one rode on him because he was on the outside and did not move up and down. He seemed to have something special or infact, magical. . There was a little lady in her 80s that took her time walking around and round looking at all the horses . The ride operator waited patiently. She finally saw this horse and said," yes you will do" just fine and petted his painted mane with wrinkled worn hands and smiled. Finally the beautiful horse had a rider. And it went round and round magically transforming her .I saw the old ladys expression like a child and suddenly she didn

Hand carved???? HAND CARVED???? I once carved my own bowl...and it looked awful! So i can appriciate the craftmanship put into this one. I wonder how many rollercoasters are handcarved...hmmmm. Worth thinking about....or maybe not. Bla bla bla. Beautiful photo my friend, and wonderful story to go with it. Have a terrific day! #:O)

Great capture, Kimmers! Here in Logansport we have one of the old style carousels. I'm not sure when it was made, but I believe it's been here for a century. It's a 'Denzel' carousel, one of a few left; all hand carved. It has been lovingly maintained by the community and is housed in a beautiful pavilion near the river. Perhaps I'll get a shot or two of it to post along with it's true history. Again, great picture, Kim!

Great story and a sad statistic that only 150 remain of the golden age carousels. I do believe that they contain a certain magic and come alive and prance around in the depths of the night. Super photo.

awesome capture of this horse and the history is so interesting. 15 years ago I bought vertical grain fir that was intended for a carrousel but was milled too thin. I built a hand made gate that is still standing

WOW! Hello pretty! hehe i love horses tho.. and i love that shot! i can see that you love horses as well hehe specially the ponnies (^_^) right! oh well... A lovely horse is always an experience.... It is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words. Many people have sighed for the 'good old days' and regretted the 'passing of the horse,' but today, when only those who like horses own them, it is a far better time for horses. And horses and children, I often think, have a lot of the good sense there is in the world. Very beatiful shot Kimarie.. and hope to see more horses honey.. HUGZ!!! + VOTE!
