Description

G'day. I have just bought myself a new compact camera so i can take infra red photos and for work purposes. Heres one of my first test photos from my local Dandenong Creek. This was taken using a Hoya R72 filter at 1/4 second, F2.8, ISO 400 (hence some noise). The I.R. photos seem to work better when its a warmer sunny day. They aslo work better on Eurpoean trees (oaks and elms)rather than our native australian Eucalyptus (gum) trees. Its a shame were heading into winter here down under!! Cheers Lou

It's in focus which is the real tricky part (for me). The R72 is the filter I use too. It's great fun. I know what you mean about the different trees. Deciduous seem to work better. Not sure about the colour cast, was that from the camera or post worked? Mine gives everything a red cast, which i remove in PS. Take more, I always like to see them.

You say some great things, sunny weather works better (probably because IR concerns heat and contrasts will be better) and the trees differ which might signify Eucalyptuses absorb the heat of the sun in a different way. Gorgeous work, love it!

Its funny because my brother has the same camera = Canon A620 and his pictures have a red/purple colour cast whereas mine is the same model but probably 6 months newer and the colour cast is orange. I note that photoshop "auto levels" brings in more yellows and blues on mine" I havent done much post work other than reducing the colour intensity "desaturation" and raising the brightness a bit!! There has been no sharpening or anything else done to this one!!! I was hoping to try this up the mountains but its turning cold and unless i get a low wind / sunny day i think i might have to leave it until spring time. I have a few more tests that ill post over the next few days. Cheers from Lou
