Description
Dressed in striped clothing, oversized shoes. Painted white face, drawn in and sad, tear drop firmly in place.. she's the clown. the fool. The merry one who dances around trying to draw amusement from her crowd. There is always one in this crowd who watches, who likes watching her move in her funny and pathetic ways, he encourages her as the others around laugh and jeer. It's not long before the sad little clown realizes that she was designed for the amusement of others, for everyone to point and laugh at, rather than any real entertainment. It's even a shorter time, before real tears start to trace their way past the painted one. She wants to stop being the center of all their crude jokes and mean comments, she wants to run and hide from all of them. She thought she was special, that she mattered, that the people around her cared for her, but she sees them now for who they are; spectators waiting for her to make an ass of herself so they can laugh and walk away feeling better about themselves because they witnessed her folly. The last one to leave, is the special man in the crowd; the one who encouraged her behavior. As she sits down on the ground deserted by all, she catches his eye. In it she sees not mirth, but shame. She turns her face away from him, and lets him walk away, joining the rest of the crowd that he and not she belongs with. The last thing she sees before the world fades to black, is his arm slipping around the back of another woman....
