Description

These are my first ever shots of bumblebees in flight. I headed out today with my 20D and MP-E looking for some more close-ups, but it wasn't happenin'. Either I was forcing it or whatever. So as I strolled through my favorite arboretum I came upon a beautiful flowering tree (forget the kind, i'm bad with flora ID). It was literally a-buzz with butterflies, bees and even some hummingbird moths (pics later) So i took off the MP-E, slapped on the 100mm and decided it was about time I attempted some in-flight shots of bumblebees while also trying to do the same with the hummingbird moth and regular butterfly shots. I think these aren't so bad for my first attempt I'm heading out tomorrow for some more it's quite fun! It was in direct sunlight, handheld. ISO 400, 1/1000 sec, f7.1 (approx), MT-24EX flash set to -1 FEC with stofen diffusers. I figure this was the only way to get the natural looking backgrounds while freezing the bees and shooting underexposed so as not to kill the highlights. Thanks for viewing! Enjoy!

Really nice work! I was also trying this type of work today but had nowhere near as much luck and skill as you did... Great job +++
