Description

With their bright feathers and strongly hooked bills, flamingos are among the most easily recognized waterbirds. Their pink or reddish color comes from the rich sources of carotenoid pigments (like the pigments of carrots) in the algae and small crustaceans that the birds eat. The Caribbean flamingos Phoenicopterus ruber ruber are the brightest, showing their true colors of red, pink, or orange on their legs, bills, and faces. One of the most awesome sights I have ever seen are flamingo's doing the mating dance when the whole group dance from side to side almost like ballet dancers.. After they set about nesting as you can see for such a ritual the nest is just made of mud and stones about 12-15 inches high! Ah well saves on energy after the long dance!! Thanks for looking and any comments you care to make

There are few things in this world, that look as hypnotizing as the eyes of a flamingo. Thats the only thing i stare at whenever i see a photo of one. They just suck me straight in. Beautiful capture Danny. Have a great evening. #:O)

Wonderful details in this awesome shot. Looking at this photo, I notice that the neck only bends in certain vertebrae and not evenly all over. Tks Danny for the photo and the lesson. :^)

Ooh, I love these birds, especially because I am a flamingo too ;-) (you may not know this, but Flamingo, or Vlaming, is the name for the Dutch speaking people of Belgium, in the region of Flanders. The Spanish Andalusian dance & music style, Flamenco, has the same origin... Seems that people from Flanders were pretty wild in earlier days;-) Wonderful shot!!!

The strange squareness if the angles of the neck are surprizing and new to me, very unlike the graceful curves of a swan. Excellent and informative capture!
