Description

My entry for the April 2006 Challenge. Pure Bryce. No imports or postwork, except signature. As happy as I am with the overall concept and feel, this image didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped: the over-bleaching of light in some areas and lack of illumination altogether in others only succeeds in misleading the eye to unintended focal points; inadequate texturing gives a sense of bland incompletion; and the horizontal grooves along the back wall - which seemed like a good idea at the time - are rather unsightly and distracting. Why not just rectify these flaws, re-render and resubit then? Ah, I would certainly like to. Unfortunately, the inclusion of the multi-reflective surfaces and imposing glass dome led to an unforeseen excrutiatingly-painful-to-watch render time of 8 days (192 hours)! and that's not something I'm looking to repeat anytime soon. Oh well, lesson learned I guess.

Very creative & colorful. I'm assuming you used metaballs & negative metaballs to model that central tree form - very nice work...

Metaballs are truly a pain to render... Nevertheless, what an impressive modeling !!! And great color scheme - Very good job !
