Description
Still working on my materials. The water is a Photoshop effect, the reasoning being that if I can't get metal to look right, I should get some practice in before tackling water, and all its translucencies and reflections.

doesn't seem so crude. if your using blender you might want to try water simulation. it is supprissingly easy to learn. it is also supprisingly easy on the system

I meant Crude Oil. Now there's a trick. How do you get those nasty little swirly greasy rainbows to appear in an oil slick over your water? I could do it by hand, but that would be cheating...

Nah, doing it by hand is the hard way, using a texture is cheating ;) You can create an oil slick look by creating a second texture and using the color gradient thingy--If you like, send me a message or post in the forum and I'll explain in more detail there (with pictures, even!)
intro
Because oil-on-water is a function of spectral luminosity,(I tried it) I think your outside current code. I tried (failed) with a mandelbrot set generator(in Carrara). Still, I think I was on the right track, but... How'd you do the lights?
