Description

The HMS Victory - Britain's Man-O-War Battleship, lead by Admiral Lord Nelson, on it's way to the battle of Trafalgar, Oct 1805 ! Engaging Napoleons fleet at Trafalgar, the british fleet fought a fierce sea battle, ending up with the victory of Admiral Lord Nelson's fleet. During this battle, Lord Nelson got hit by a bullet of a french sharpshooter. He didn't recover anymore and died that same day. Well done. Great pov selection and a-sky selection. You need to remove two of the three sets of each flag and some of the duplicate sails. Hanksters model has three sail sets for various wind strenghts and three flag sets to match. When you load the model, do not weld it and you can select your flag and sail types in the object sub categories.

Thanks alot for all your comments ! kenwas, thank you for your tip with the flags ... i've purchased this nice ship just a few days ago, but didn't check it in detail, yet. I can use your hint in following pictures with this wonderful model for different situations. I still have to work on my 2D postwork - i'm not satisfied with it, could be done alot better ... maybe next time ;-) !

Ha! Kenwas is learning! He beat me to it...his comments are ones I have written Ad Nauseum to others that have rendered this model, including his! His comments are actually mine...LOL. GSGalaxy, if you are going to render this model more in the future, and want to see a good set of views of this ship in her element, I suggest you go to: www.scrimshawgallery.com/ Online Gallery/ Paintings and Prints section. Look over the 2D artwork of Geoff Hunt, who is one of the foremost maritime/HMS Victory artists today. His work has been used on ALL the Patrick O'Brian novels of Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin. (the basis for the Master and Commander film...) Even done in 2D, his views of Victory are superb (I myself have 4-5 of his limited edition artworks), showing wind/weather/lighting/sail configurations as realistically as possible. Okay, now for my crit: 2 big no-nos...close the gunports. In weather like this, the ports would all be closed, for fear of flooding the ship and sinking. Also, the sail configuration you rendered is for little or no wind. The full sail set, with the outer stun's'l's (stun sails) set was only to set to try to catch any wind that could propel the ship forward. In rough weather like shown, a minimum of sails would be set, usually only the largest mid-mast sails, the Courses, or the topsails as well, and the aft Spanker and foreward Jib sails for steerage. Otherwise, the captain might risk too much strain on the masts and, "tear the sticks outta her...". As I always tell others,...research, research, research...always study your subject, especially if it really existed, and you want to portray it accurately... anyway, a very good start!

FitArtistSF - thank you for your detailed comment. Sure you are right - full sail config at these conditions, in reality a crazy sail setting ! It just looked so powerful with all those sails (i totally forgot to take away the not needed sail polygons - in this picture there are way to many - overlapping i guess). I will go ahead and rework this pic using the tipps from kenwas and FitArtistSF and release it later on ... I'm still new to Vue graphics and always happy to learn more.
