A Tiger for Mea (Photoshop) www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php

I have been drawing since I was 11, some 33 years ago.
My 6th grade teacher, Mr. Knoss, was a great artist and I greatly admired his illustrations. He encouraged me to pursue my artistic interests at a crucial time in my development.
My High School art teacher "Vern", was also a great influence. He always challenged me to try different things.
I was lucky that my parents were very supportive of my interest in art. I studied at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1986-1990). Where I was humbled by many great artists that were far more talented than I. There it was that I rounded out my fine art skills, and then chose to major in Media Arts. Studied film, video and sound. Learned all the skills needed to shoot, direct, edit those mediums.
While pursuing a Media Arts major, I discovered computer graphics, still in it's infancy. This is where I came to an Epiphany. Here was a new medium, that incorporated everything I had previously learned into one new medium. Not only that, but it had new dimensions, interactivity, feedback, randomness, AI. I was hooked.
The next 17 years I learned and grew with the industry. Learning everything from how to create and manipulate digital imagery and create animations, to interface design and interactive authoring. My day job is an Information Architect, a fancy term for software interface design.
A few years back, my wife and I hit on some difficult times (As many people do) and it was during a very dark time in our lives that I discovered what became Renderosity, Initially I posted work, merely as a way to get myself back into the discipline of making new art.
I was delighted to find a world-wide community of talented artists, exchanging ideas and art!! I was thrilled! I have learned so much from you, and your art has brightened up my world. I am lucky to have made some great friends here, and I aim to do tributes to all of you!

I thought they were born with tufts?

Because humans sweat, they have a niche in the noon day sun on the savannah. On the other hand, I was once with a Maasai driver who found it amusing to provoke a male sitting somewhat like this in the shade under a small tree. I learned something very interesting--a real lion's roar in the wild has a physiological dimension that carries directly into the chest cavity, and whatever one's mental equanimity, has its effects....Incidentally it was an open vehicle, and a male like this can move five hundred pounds laterally with a flick of the paw.....

Very Cool Work!!!

I assume the tuft is supposed to be present on the 3d model of this lion but doesn't render? I might try using the clone tool to Photoshop some of the mane into the tail. I probably wouldn't like the way it turned out, and I'd end up deleting it. But that's what I'd try.

Nice...erm, pussy Eric ! hehehe, try a hair dryer or left over fire-works for fluffing up his tuft ? I don't think Hoppy and his side-kick will be poking anymore lions with a stick ! the fur looks great as does "da pant" kool stuff buddy ~Cheers~ :o)

Excellent pant. You even got the chest cavity to rise. If you can see the tuft in the wireframe but not the render, go into the material editor and check to make sure that the transparency slider is not at 100...or there is a button in the transparency row. You may also click on the down triangle next to the texture window and select normal.

Perhaps his tail was bobbed a bit during a barroom brawl! lol! Excellent animation; the pant looks perfect!
Forevernyt
Maybe he's starting a new trend? The tuftless tails! Awesome ani!

I don't know the first thing about rendering, sorry.I'd probably just paint it in,lol.Wonderful work,Eric.I love the shadows' movement on his mane and the breathing chest looks so realistic.Hmmm.I think I'd like plants in the background. But I'm sure whatever you do,it will be awesome.Have a fabulous weekend!-M :^)

You know, I don't think I've ever actually renedered the lion. blush I'll go check and let you know if I can make it go. Meanwhile, nice lion you've got there! :-)

Oh, this looks fantastic!!! I tell you, I've rendered that Big Cat tons of times, but I've NEVER done a lion, so I can't help with the tail!! I guess I should do one, though!!!!! EXCELLENT work!!
rayburg
I'd be lion if I said I didn't like it...lol..love the chest expanding in sync with the panting. This lion can't be king of beasts until he gets that tuft on his tail..you'll figure it out.

Hmmm, what does this make me think of .... "Gritty Kitty ain't so pretty,/ But it's really thick./ It fills my cat box oh so snug;/ It always does the trick./ I like to rub it on my toe/ And squish and squish and squish!/ It rare offends my tender nose,/ Like a smelly fish!/ Its texture is a joy to me,/ It's just as smooth as silk./ It makes my little whiskers twitch;/ It stays crunchy, even in milk!/ I may not be the President,/ I may not be the Pope,/ But as long as I have Gritty Kitty,/ I shall never mope!"
SamTherapy
As a cat lover, I really appreciate the pic. Shame - as you mentioned - about the tail tuft, though.
