Description

This is quite possibly a "one of a kind" aircraft on display at the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio. The Douglas B-18 was based on the DC-2 transport and was Army Air Corps main "heavy" bomber in the late 1930s. Like many obsolescent types, the B-18 soldiered on in WWII in the Philippine Campaign of '41-42 and was a valuable anti-submarine patrol plane with for both the U.S. and Canadian air forces.

There are a couple I know of out here in California (as well as a couple of unrelated B-23 Dragons).

IIRC this was Howard Hughs' entry in the 'bomber contest' -- easy to see how the B-17 won.

Beautiful old lady. I like your POV and the glow of the body achieved by your lighting.

Nice shot! I've heard that the original Memphis Belle which was rotting away, much like the Enola Gay, is to be refurbished and put on display there.
