Description

In the Netherlands, large-scale domestic and industrial peat usage once was widespread. A peat producing area was the Weerribben. Peat was traditionally used for cooking and domestic heating. To get rid of the water of the bogs where the peat grew, men used a few types of windmills, including this one: the Tjaskermolen. It was in fact a low capacity windmill. The one of the yesterday image was at least ten times stronger than the one you see here.. the reason why it was used.. it's mobility. It was easy to replace the windmill to get another part of the bog dry.. well more or less dry of course.

Very interesting. Peat is used so much world wide, it's nice to see how they handle the moisture problem in other countries. HUGS!!!

Interesting the contrast between the bright sunshine in the foreground paired with the dark clouds of the background. Harvesting the power of nature without taking anything away from it. Unfortunately, a rare concept these days.

Seeing this in the location is just amazing. That moat and the intense sky sure highlights the mill. I will never tire of these photos from you.
