Description

I took these recently in the Dallas area National Cemetary. I found the buckeye butty on the vault marker of a soldier. I thought maybe it was symbol of his spirit. it is is always with a heavy heart to visit National Cemetaries for me. to take in account so many women and men that put theirselves in harms way and never to hold their loved ones again. never to see their children become adults. Every soldier that dies in Iraq or Afganistan is another notch in the ego of our leader. yes go after the terrorists that created the 911 tragedy. the bombing of the USS Cole. Bombing of innocents, but why try to make democracy work in a region that does not want it, does not believe in it, against their beliefs that anyone can coexist and not be a member of their cult.obviously there is a majority that does not want it to be a reality. feel free to express your opinions, disgust, agreement, different views I appreciate the men and women that serve their country no matter where it is. I do not appreciate leaders just following a whim, bold face lying to further their beliefs and to enrich their pocket book

Wonderful tribute to our fallen soldiers Richard! I wish I had the answers, it seems all I have is hearsay. If this is all our leaders have, then we are in serious toruble! I would vote for a canidate that supported Isolationism!

Photographs at the top and bottom are mediocre, but the middle one is amazing. I voted for that one alone. As for your views, I agree with you. I also think that I -- along with most people -- should learn as much as possible about the specifics of what's going on so we can try and do something about it.

Thought provoking work, Richard. Perhaps the little bird on your third shot is a spirit too. Beautiful tribute.

Richard, out of respect for the American nation I won't add insult to injury making reckless remarks as an outsider, however, I can not pass on an opportunity to say "God bless America", a great nation. Your tribute is very apt and stirred my emotions. You succeeded in talking a universal language here - excellent work!

I personally believe that you are absolutely correct in your statements. During WWII, I remember when a friend, and neighbor, who was a mentor to all of us sand lot baseball kids was killed in Iwo Jima.He was only 19. A life literally cut off in the midst of its usefulness.I have seen nothing but war all my life, as have we all. When, if ever, will it end?

I am afraid that our leaders are simply a reflection of our society as a whole... as long as we as individuals value consumerism above creativity and worship our corporations like false gods - outer reflects the inner. This is why I believe in beauty and art. +++

A poignant tribute, Richard, and a brilliantly creative symbolism! IMHO the contrast between the central photo and the conventional views at top and bottom speaks volumes. The beauty of the Bfly as symbol of spirit contrasts ironically with the errosion of the name on the stone - our tragic perishability - almost an appeal: please, don't forget me and what I did just because I'm not here anymore. IMHO this is perhaps your best and most evocative phot-artistry yet and supremely appropriate! VOTE As to your thoughts in text, I agree along with millions of others. The tragedy of broken dreams, blighted lives and loss is overwhelming and rendered bitter when the reason for the sacrifices seems so pointless, based on lies and misconceptions and bereft of sense and honor. Will we ever learn from our mistakes? Will we ever choose our decision makers with real care for the consequences? Will we - as a people - ever come to grips that the real responsibilities lie with us, individually, for the decisions and choices we do and don't make? I do not know, but I keenly hope. Thanks for the tremendous visual stimulation my friend!

Richard, a very nice tribute to all our soldiers..from the American Revolution to the present...I couldn't agree with you more about King George. I believe he would have started this war even without 9/11. He just wanted to "up one" on his daddy.

This is a wonderful images for the ones who die in hurm way. I do not blame Bush. He just following orders like the Prez C. before him from the one world goverment that HQ is in Europe. The middle east have to have it power structure and beliefs broken before the one world goverment takes over. Rostchild [think I spelled his name right] is very big in the one world goverment. The World Bank is a very big part of the one world goverment. So is the U.N.

A poignant and moving commentary upon the futility of war - if politicians did their work properly then maybe war would be a thing of the past!
