Description

Forgive my indulgence in Birds of Prey I had not got this one in my gallery.. The Falkland Islands hold most of the world's population of the Striated Caracara, a rare bird of prey known locally as Johnny Rook. Its reputation for attacking sheep and lambs has meant that it has been widely persecuted by farmers and this has led to a serious decline in numbers. Today it breeds almost exclusively on remote offshore islands where it depends on colonial seabirds for most of its food. To determine its current status Falklands Conservation (at the request of Falkland Islands Government) conducted a survey of this species during 1997/98. When it was deemed to be endangered.. I have been fortunate to see them in this wild environment on several occasions, and they are very intelligent and resourceful birds, numbers are increasing, and they have adapted to the modern world by raiding dustbins and are amazingly strong quite able to move large rocks to get at what may hide underneath.. Thanks as always for taking time to look and any comments

Surely you mean the Malvinas, and what about the unprovoked British attack, a long age before, on Buenos Aires? Superb image!

Not sure which I'm most impressed about, the fact that you've been to the Falklands (under what circumances?) or that you got this unique cap. Bravo my friend!

Incredible story. He looks to be the size of a gull. Birds are far more intelligent than we have ever given them credit for being. Very Nice. HUGS!!
