Description

Thank you for all the comments and views on the Nampo Trade Show in South Africa.

I left the controversial stuff for last - sleezy me! This is where the "bunny huggers" and conservationists hopefully have the same aim in life. Many a maize/corn farmer have diversified farming practices where utilization of game keeps the bank manager happy while maize has to compete with subsidized imports from overseas.

Animal rights organizations argue that no hunts should take place and all animals should roam free for tourists to look at and everybody should be happy.

Conservationists advocating sustained yield management argue: "If they pay, they stay" or put differently, if there is monetary value attached to the animal, farmers will protect and care for them. Adhering to strict ethical codes, hunting will be humane and everybody should be happy.

I hope you received some food for thought. Previous items:

I am not a hunter as in going out and shooting animals for sport. I see so many people with the stuffed heads displayed on their walls and I only think the animal would still be alive if they had not shot it. I would imagiune most of the time the meat goes to the buzzards and big cats instead of to hungry people. the animal in your picture is so huge. what bredd is it? excellent fotos

Dear One: Interesting and very thought provoking. To look at both sides does bring controversy. I am not sure how both ideas can truly be justified. So glad that you had a good time and this is a great collage. Love the animals. HUGS!!

I love that photo of the woman with the big gun. There a lot of deer around here and they will strave to dead if they are not hunded to thin them out. Is that humane to let the animal strave?

I admit to sitting in the middle on this issue,Coming from a long line of hunters yet one who could not kill any animal for any reason. I recall a certain mounted trophy in the family with fondness and know that the meat was eaten; it was not simply a trophy kill. I do not believe in killing simply for trophy purposes but realize that some species DO need to be thinned to avoid a more terrible fate; just won't ever be ME doing it, LOL! Another excellent presentation and narrative; I look forward to these!

Piet, I could not kill a creature with a gun for sport, ever.. Indeed I would never want a gun in my hands, at all.... Different stokes, for different folks, hey? Swifts and swallows are flying outside my open windows as I type. All the way from your glorious skies. Woo hoo!! and Hugs. Di.

Argh... I can't like the hunting issue, I think buck and things like that are normal. In cavemen terms but lions and wild dogs and Hyenas are a whole nother subject... But they do have breeding farms over here for that including lions - which in my books is terrible. Love your capture of the woman's interest.

I'm with jocko and yukoniak on the hunting question. I also believe that we should work to preserve land for wildlife. It's the age old queston of nature belonging to man, or man belonging to nature. We must try to find a balance. Oh, and another beautiful collage, Piet!
