Description

"In the First World War, and for the first time in the history of man, nations combined to fight against nations using the crude weapons of those days. The Second World War involved every continent on the globe, and men turned to science for new devices of warfare, which reached an unparalleled peak in their capacity for destruction. And now, fought with the terrible weapons of super-science, menacing all mankind and every creature on the Earth comes the War of the Worlds." -Radio reporter from War of the Worlds, 1953

Exploding from beneath the surface of the lily pond, Tentaculas reveals itself fully at last! No long dialog today either folks - just anticipating the gallery change over to the new format. I hope it doesn't turn out to be too much of a "monster." ::Cringes in anticpation of the chorus of groans:: ----- Many thanks for your wiggly comments on my last upload, Invasion of the Lily Pond III.

If there is a next World War would there be anything left? I think the first step is good, not showing how many hits and comments, next would be to eliminate the top 20, I have seen some really poor image make it and many terrific image never make it! Boy someone put a lot of work into this sculpture:):):)

Text For TwoPynts: Ah so, the plot not only thickens but EXPLODES and the last was indeed a point in a sequence, culminating in a glorious geyser of tentacles! Orson Welles was no doubt a bit overenthusiastic about H.G., and the extrapolation is a little hyperbolic. Railroads and telegraphs, the Gatling Gun, repeating lever action rifles, as well as extensive use of hot air balloons and so forth , were among innovations in the American War Between the States, which the Chinese still call, rather endearingly and with some sense, the War Between North and South. World War I was likely more innovative than World World II--gas, the airplane, the treaded tank, the machine gun, radio, the submarine, and so forth. If I recall correctly 700,000 died in the Battle of Verdun alone. True enough World War II's innovations included the buzz bomb, the rocket, the jet (losing side) the heavy bomber (with new bomb sight), radar, and the atomic bomb. So many Russians died (20,000,000) that the dearth of men after the war practically advanced feminism in the professions under the old Soviets just as the loss of French men in World I advanced a similar rush of women into professions in that country between the two wars. Incidentally though it received no real press in the United States, the war between Iraq and Iran was very much of the magnitude and type (including trench warfare) of World War I in Europe. But back to the great man: one immediately saw, even without reading, that the impressario in the new King Kong was patterned on Welles and his great role as Citizen Kane. And on a more personal note, one never appreciated Thoreau's description of an ant war until one actually saw one, which in later years had echoes of the Homeric...

Super fantastic sculpture. What planet is it from? And who gets to keep it clean? Who/what does it eat? Who cleans its teeth? How can you sleep at night with that thing so close? Ahhh, don't mind me, I'm just being paranoid.
