Description

My wife bought a book of Photoshop effects and one was how to create a realistic looking watercolor picture from a photo. Not just a case of running a few filters, you actually have to paint on numerous layers with brushes and layer blending modes that I didn't even know photoshop had. But it wasn't as tricky as I expected and for a first attempt, I'm pretty happy. Next, Oil! Thanks for looking.

Fantastic result... You are right, it does not look like a filtered photo... Care to share the name of the BooK?

Beautiful work!! You did an amazing job! :D I can only imagine the work you had to put into this to transform the photo into such a believable 'watercolor' painting. If you do something like this again, post some step-by-step images as well; then the rest of us can learn a bit as we marvel. :D

It's pretty tricky to post step by step images since it's really only 3 main layers and it's the layer blending modes that do the real trick. Also, the guy who wrote the book went to great lengths and I wouldn't feel right just giving away the secret. But you can get the book oneline if you search for "A photo effects cookbook".

Well, I for one, thought it was a watercolour! The water is especially effective. I normally don't like photos that have been filtered with a water colour thingy but this works really well.

I think it not using filters is the key. It's a case of duplicating layers and using blend modes and brushes and textures to create the effect.
