Description

A solitary figure makes his way towards the twin telescopes located in a now barren wasteland. He is one of only a few astronomers left on his world, each day seeking out life in the galaxy. This image would not give me peace until I finished it. Thanks to Markal for kick-starting my sci fi interest, and Medevial for reminding me to stick a living creature in once in a while. I dedicate this one to all of you; you've helped me more than you know. Two Terragen terrains compiled, TG atmosphere, sky, clouds. Planet created in PS from Terrgen texture. Figure from Poser 4, Romantics cape from Rosity free stuff, Observatories modelled in Bryce 5 by me. Thanks to Mayday for his sand texture. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

great concept Paul...I like the terrain and especially the surfaces...the subtly of the planet in the distance really gives a sense of the atmosphere...nice job modelling the telescsopes and pw'ing in the figure...

One wonders when viewing this image if it is a scene from the future; or, a scene from a distant past. Paul, this is excellent creativity that stimulates thought ...beautiful creation.

Yeah, that's perfect. Looks and fit all very well together. The image has a story in case of the wanderer, and the (far) planet looks absolutely real now. Also the twin telescopes are a very interesting model for sf scenes. Look simple, but really well for scenes like this. Congratulations!

I like it. Perhaps could you merge a bit more the telescopes in the distant fog.

excellent image - just one thought though - could the solitary figure be better placed? - he seems too close to the dark shadow of the terrain - possibly would work closer to the camera?

One unfortunate accident in an otherwise beautiful shot is that your "solitary figure" is immediately parallel to a shadow similarly shaped and so my immediate impression was that there were two people walking. When you mentioned that he was alone I had to look closer. From my side, I'm viewing only a monitor where the blacks are a little more crushed than usual, so perhaps it doesn't come off that way usually. Anyway, that's my note. I really like the buildings in the distance. Kind of a Jetson feel, in a good way.
