Description

" Oh the buzzin' of the bees In the peppermint trees 'Round the soda water fountain At the lemonade springs Where the bluebird sings On the big rock candy mountain" -BRCM lyrics by Harry "Haywire Mac" McClintock

Funny, growing up I never realized that The Big Rock Candy Mountain song was about a bum's paradise. They lyrics are pretty interesting and you can view all of the published ones HERE. Wikipedia has some interesting history on it as well, including original, uncensored lyrics. Funny how words can take on a life of their own, isn't it? Anyway, that is what sprang to mind when I saw this Chihuly sculpture at Fairchild Garden in Miami. As a boy, one of my favorite candies was the simple stick of rock candy. If I had one this size in my youth, I would have been the most popular kid in school! To answer some a question, no, it is not a permanent exhibit. I caught it during the last weekend it was there. I was lucky that a coworker told me about it. The usual touchup postwork, plus a little extra in this one to remove the people and parked cars. ----- Thanks for your ship-shape comments on my last upload, Dali's Boat.

Hmmm, glint and sheen of rock candy, distorted lily pads, with a certain amount of projection, but somehow the background does not work (what to do? Relandscape--who did Versailles again, hehe). Never liked Rock Candy, maybe an occasional Jawbreaker...

I'm gonna disagree, looks like a sticky clump of "Pop-rocks", the weirdest candy I have ever put in my mouth! : P Nice shot, though I agree with the Prof, there is something not quite right about the background? Is it the space ariund the sculpture? Or further out...Hemingway, excellent sculpture you've captured here!!

Beautiful! The framing here is even better than your usual stuff. I can see from your recent choices in avatars that you're a Family Guy fan -- I found a video clip of the "regan smash" scene, you want me to send you the link?

Did you know there is a lost verse to this song? It was the last verse of the song, and was dropped for being too controversial. It goes like this; The punk rolled up his big blue eyes and said to the jocker, "Sandy, I've hiked and hiked and wandered too, but I ain't seen any candy. I've hiked and hiked till my feet are sore, and I'll be damned if I hike any more To be buggered sore like a hobo's whore On the Big Rock Candy Mountain. Believe it or not, it is true! Anyway, excellent photo and photography Kort! Have an awesome day my friend!
