Description

You all are always asking me about getting stung when I post wasps and bees. Well about two weeks ago I got stung right on the tip of my nose by one of the wasps from this nest (excrutiating pain!) I wasn't even trying to photograph them (had no idea they were even there until my unfortunate incident.) I usually won't kill any of my photography stars but these were unfortunately in a place where I might get stung again so it had to be done. This was taken after the extermination and one of the wasps remained hanging from the nest so I thought I would give him his last shot at 15 minutes of fame. Thank you for your much appreciated coments on "Thankful for the rain" Have a wonderful day! (I will visit the galleries later, I have a lot of things to get done first) Wendy

Awesome and great closeup my friend :) Love the post and the details on that little creature :) I usually get close to them about 0.5 - 1.0 cm :)) but if they will think to bite or stung me they will be in the past :P Awesome colours and amazing your Cam can get those details with a built in zoom.. Thank you for the post and keep posting tho.. Have a lovely day.

This is fantastic at full size. And feel free to take precautionary measures against these nasty little buggers, I don't have much sympathy for them.

Oh, ouch!! Right on the nose? Well these little buggers had it coming. Amazing shot. I've never seen one so close up. (and I don't plan on getting close enough to one myself to see it again!)

huh. i thought it might be a picture of your swollen nose. great macro though. mud daubers, which this is, if i'm not mistaken, are some of the most vicious wasps out there. "sting first, ask questions later"

you must be using a tripod for these. incredible sharpness. if you mix vinegar and baking soda into a paste and apply it to the sting area, it will make the pain go away and swelling. it neutralizes the poison.when I was doing alot of exterior painting, I kept the stuff in my truck for that purpose and it works.

This guy still looks like a fighter out of Star Wars. Those created creatures must be a take off of some of your fantastic critters. Great photo, and so sorry about the sting. Have a nice weekend. HUGS and a kiss!!!!

I once saw an absolutely beautiful wasp that was over 5cm long (2 inches) in my father's garden. It also had a sting (I thought) of at least 3 cm. Being a born wasp-hater, I killed the creature immediately. But I had never seen something like it before, so I started searching the Internet to see what kind of wasp it was. I found out that it was a giant woodwasp (just translated the Dutch name, I don't know it in English), and it was totally harmless (they don't sting). What I thought to be the sting, was actually the egg tube of the female wasp. That was the very first time I actually felt sorry for killing a wasp ;-) Well, I just praised your image from yesterday; the same goes for this one. Amazing clarity and detail, and superb composition and depth. A joy to watch (from a safe distance) ;-)

Awesome shot! BTW, did you know a dab of household bleach on a wasp sting will kill the pain? Just put a drop and when the pain subsides, wash the bleach off and then proceed with whatever you normally do for a wasp sting! I don't know why it works, but it does, I've done it!
