Description

About Aries I-B In the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey the Aries I-B. is operated by Pan American like the Orion III "Space Clipper". The Aries IB is a craft which routinely shuttles passengers between Earth orbit and the lunar surface. It sports retractable landing gear which lets it to tail-land on the Moon. The vessel's cockpit is on the "top" to the spherical hull and the passenger deck lies at the hull's "equator". Passengers may rest in their comfortable couches and/or watch large-screen AV presentations to kill the time during their transit. The landing pads at Clavius Base house elevators which can deliver the landed Aries to a subsurface hanger. About the picture: Here is Aries I-B on the Moon on its launchpad. The 3D mesh for Bryce of Aries I-B by Mauro Biolo. You can find it at http://www.strafe.com/2001 The 2001 astronaut props are by Zorzim, a great Renderosity artist and a friend of mine. Astronaut "composite" and scene by me. A very kewl pic indeed, but I don't get the sense of size the Aries had in the movie. You might want to look at some of the movies stills to see what I mean. I have them if you want. Top marks for quality though!

I love the lighting - creates a very dramatic mood. I'm a bit puzzled by the dark edge on the outer surface of the astronaut's right leg. Overall though, a very nice job!

Impeccable render -- you've nailed that early-70s Di Fate style to a T. FIVE STARS and added to my faves!
