Description

The beast has two tails, one on it's rear, and one on it's nose. The former to steer, and the latter to know where it goes. Moving in duality Two different speeds independent from the steed It's hindtail grows longer as its foretail grows shorter It's steering gets stronger as it's direction gets quartered The beast has a million legs Only which four will move at any given time Which will only prove that it is less than sublime It stumbles along each step once wrong Then corrected forever Only to find it's next mis-step One might say it's clever but it is only in prep For the next stage to break free from it's cage Teeth, razor sharp devour all in it's path will only blindly harp the loss in it's wrath

I get the feeling that this should end with "What am I?", like those quizzes. Interesting. -j.p.

As Don Henley says, "Ya' just can't kill the beast"? Always enjoy your works, experimental! My best, T.P.

Perhaps my metaphors have gone a little above and beyond normal human imagination (don't ask my definition of normal, even I don't know that much). I'll summarize here, but please draw your own inferences first, I prefer it that way. The beast is humankind. The tails are time, past and future. The million legs are the aspects of our brains, the different cognitive tools we have at our disposal. The teeth, razor sharp, you may have guessed is our destructive nature. And the cage is this planet which traps our spirits. Hope this clears things up. I don't enjoy explaining my works often because I like to hear what else it could be, and the need to explain something only denotes a failed metaphor. I would like to add that this was not drug (or alcohol) induced in any way. My drinking days have shortened (maybe this is growing up?)

It's good to see you in the gallery again. I liked the acid edge of your poem and it's bite of truth. All my best to you.
