The so-called Stellar-Titanian Society is the one advanced non-human society that can be shown beyond doubt to have existed. By the time humans visited the planet Ossa, the Titanians had certainly been extinct for many thousands of years. Archaeology suggests that the Titanians never developed any kind of metallurgy, so they were a stone-age culture, but they built on an extraordinary scale. A few buildings on Ossa dwarf anything constructed on Earth before the Construction Revolution of the late 23rd century. Very rare remains of the Titanians themselves show them to have been surprisingly similar to humans: shorter, on average, but bipedal, with a decidedly comparable brainpan. Undoubtedly, they never had the means to leave Ossa's atmosphere, so their demise was probably due to a planetary collision, although archaeologists have yet to detect an impact site on which all agree. Not surprisingly, with its abundance of superlatively preserved Stellar-Titanian sites, Ossa is an irresistible magnet for archaeologists, two of whom we see here.
