Description

Hello all! This was shot with my nikon 7900 a few weeks back at Balboa Park . This guy reminded me so much of an oil painting from the 1800's at my Aunts house... a small oil of an old man and his pipe . I grew up looking at that painting and while out walking the other night I saw that painting seem to materalise before me in the here and now!. SO I shot this that reminded me so strongly of it . Then we met the old Fisherman. And so Asked him if it was ok that I took his picture. He was very friendly and didn't mind being photographed. His name is Gladamer ( sp?) -he was happily fishing ( had caught 3 and caught one as we talked to him Chrissy got excited and she helped him pull up the fish from the water ...and so he showed Chrissy a few how too's on the subject... Chrissy then asked him about his accent and he told us that immigrated from Russia a few years back ! He also said that living here in Southern California is a dream come true and pure paridise!.. hehe I was just happy to meet such a nice person who would take time with my daughters to teach them about fishing . A real content heart of gold and love for life that shows in his smile here ! LOL and you don't see big fat pipes like that hardly ever these days around here..lol! *looks best at full size...thanks! "O) oh and one more small note here - I was pretty sure about this one as a must in black and white but i really do love the colors in this so will leave it for now as it.. Thank you for all your time and comments! Love to you all! ((( BIG HUGS! ))) ~ ♥ ~Kimmers ! :O)

This portrait is much better than it appears at first sight... when I see the strong background light, it's almost a miracle that you got his face so wonderfully clear. Nothing taken for granted here: it is a wonderful portrait, and exceptionally mastered as well... You are a talented lady! ;-))

It's a really nice portrait. You nevertheless should do this in B/W. This man has so many curves in his face, which would be wonderfull in B/W. I just threw it into PS and played with the settings and the outcome speaks for itself. You can't change it but I've prefered if the guy wouldn't look onto the ground. Last point, that hat poping out of the frame doesn't look good, it's my personal preference, I don't like such digital baubles (hope that's the right word)

B&W or Color? Think this is one of those occasions when you just have to do both. Very special capture.

Wow, the character is written in his face for all to see...he's amazing. Just one of those people who you know has so many tales to tell...one of those you could listen to for hours, and you've captured it all in a single click for us to view. Never lose your magic...that lens of yours is a doorway to our hearts. You always manage to touch mine....:) Beautiful work!

I like this in color...but half tone...or something sort of bronzed. It might make the photo look as weathered as he does. I love that you chose to allow the brim of his hat to spill over into the frame of the photo.
