------------- The Witches of Avandor

On the far side of the world, beyond the magically bereft lands of Hesterland, south of the island nation of Kibberan, lies the one place on Arrallon slowest to come into the 19th millennium, the nearly medieval lands of Avandor. There are many reasons for its semi-primitive state; religious, geographic, cultural. But foremost amongst those reasons are the powerful magics wielded by its only true mages, the Witches of Avandor. For there, unlike on the civilized continent of Callona, magic belongs in the hands of priests and only priests. And the priests of Avandor worship the Avandorian Gods, a nearly mono-theistic pantheon dominated by Jehovah and attended by angels.

But the real threat of the Avandorian church is not in its God, but in its devils. Lucifer, Baelzebub, Moloch, Belial, Dispater, Satana, Asmodeus,... all spawn from this faith, and are as much a part of its twisted soul as the merciless God that rules the Avandorians from Heaven. It is no surprise then that the chief antagonists to the unyielding laws of the church, to its far too often corrupt and ungodly priests, are Witches.

Witchcraft is as illegal in Avandor as it is here, but one would think it more so. Avandorians seek out Witches like Carellonian Paladins hunt demons and vampires. And though most of the Witches of Avandor are more than deserving of their date with the fires of Hell, some are followers of the Kibberran Gods, the ancient followers of the Tuatha de Dannan. And far be it for the Avandorians to see any difference between a Witch and Druid. To them, a "sinner is a sinner".
