Description

And I mean "real" rust. This is where it all began with my warped construction. I use to work in metal sculpture and made a few of these. This is the only one I kept for myself and it's been in a box for a few years. This is made of welded sheet metal and welding rod on an iron wood base. It measures 38 inches tall. I think it's about 25 years old. When I first started making things with metal, I used beer cans because they were still being made of tin and soldered real nice. Had to drink beer as part of the job too. Took a digital photo and then made a Bryce sea and sky. Masked away the photos background and applied it to the render. The shadow, reflection and foam are all done in postwork. Made it larger than usual for viewing pleasure. Please try it at full-size.

Can't get much more realistic than real metal. This one is definitely a keeper. Glad you did!

Stunning picture! Looks like somthing out of "Myst"! You've done an amazing job in integrating te photo into the rendered background - it looks like it was only ever a single image, not a composite.

Nice approach saves hard drive space but you will end up running out of garage sooner or later and then what.
