Description

... when what to our wondering eyes should appear, but a fox marching right down the middle of the road towards us! He stopped right in front of us and stopped to eat the lunch he had caught, (lower left), and then approached us to check us (lower right). My host and guide for the day had his camera out and was kneeling just barely out of the picture on that one, not much more than two feet away! He gave us one last look, my larger shot, and then marched right on down the road like he had an appointment he couldn't be late for. The whole thing lasted less than five minutes. We were all stunned, since most of us had never seen a fox, much less been this close to one! This was in Mount Rainier National Park by the Reflection Lake, btw. Thanks for looking and thanks very kindly for your comments on my previous photos! .... Maria

Isn't it a great feeling to have a camera with you when you need it?! I see one every year or two, and am always amazed at the bushiness of the tail. Never got a photo though. Time to get a Fujifilm FinePix F30 methinks....

I was so hoping you'd post a pic of this fellow! Foxes (at least where I live) are a rare, rare treat to see - especially in the daytime! He sure is handsome!

What a terrific story! Only in National Parks do things like this happen. In a way, it's scary - as a general rule, there's a problem with any wild animal that lets you get closer than 10 feet. But animals in the parks have become so used to people they have lost their natural caution. Sure makes for wonderful photos, tho! Love the presentation here! Very, very professional.

Congrats on this fantastic image and very lucky encounter! I have seen a fox only once in my old back yard. He sat there for a few minutes while I talked to it and left. Never to see one again! These are just beautiful images. I am glad that he was not scared of you. Well done!

It is fascinating to see your American wildlife and compare them to their british cousins over here on the other side of the atlantic. Our english foxes do not have such long dark coloured legs, and smaller ears. Where i used to live wild foxes used to walk down our pavements (side walks) and scavenge from our refuse bins. i used to watch them from my window in the dark

Wow, lucky you! I'd love to see a fox that close. Excellent job photographing him instead of just standing there looking, like I would have done. :-)
