Description

I don't think I have a Tiger Swallowtail in my gallery - so here it is. Thanks for having a look and happy Friday! Jodie :0)

Great profile capture on the far wing and the color composition is very pleasing. Excellent DOF!

Saw one of these myself the other day. Summer is here, all right! These swallowtails are fast fliers, so congrats on capturing this one. Pleasing contrast of colors! FIVE STARS

Beautifully composed shot. Looking at your cam stats, it was shot in the most difficult conditions: very bright direct sunlight. If possible, a smaller aperture (f4) would have been more appropriate to blur the bright highlights in the back and to make the flower branch less distractive for the main subject (try shooting these subjects with Aperture Priority program on your cam). There are some details in the black parts of the wings that can still be brought out with Shadow/Highlight in Photoshop. Again: these light conditions are not the easiest to work with... I know you asked for critical comments, right?

Yes, Geert! I did ask! Thank you so much for that info. I usually shoot in manual but will definately try what you suggested. I have all kinds of bells and whistles on that camera so I might as well use them.

Beautiful... can even make out (or seem to) the scales on the wings.

there was one flying where I have been working but could not get the camera out because of owner may see me. you were fortunate to see one and be able to capture. when an elusive butterfly like a swallow tail is in your sights I think you should shoot first and ask questions later

I really like the POV here, to highlight the "full" wing detail, yet still catch a glimmer of sun from the less apparent wing. I like the depth provided by high aperture settings (like you chose), but I suppose this is a matter of taste. Still, I think this is an absolutely wonderful shot.

Yes, most of us have such a wonderful swallowtail butty in our gallery... Yours is very well presented, Jodie ! Very sharp composition ! And, if you don't mind, I'm gonna use some of Geert's advices for my next macros... :~)

Another gorgeous macro capture by odie, further emphasizing the fact you're an expert at this type of shot! Fine image of the flowers and plant to boot. Butterfly wings are diaphanous enough to allow enough light to pass through, making a beautiful contrast between the black and yellow.

Beautiful shot,Jodie.I love the soft color palette, especially the pale green ground.I read Geert's comments, and it's even more impressive knowing how difficult your conditions were.Applause to Geert for his helpful comment, and to you for this beauty.-M :^) PS Sorry this took me so long...been backtracking my ebots all day and yesterday...

It's the simple shots that are usually the most satisfying. The colors are so smooth and creamy, like a bowl of pureed vegetable soup. I also really like the frame; I'm partial to un-elaborate frames like that myself, and you chose a good combination of colors. I can't see anything to criticise so I'll just say that that's a nice shot with a nice frame and I hope to see more from you soon!

Boy, have I missed a bunch in your gallery!!! Jodie, this is my FAVORITE butterfly; and I would LOVE to simply see one in person! (or in butterfly) whatever ... let alone shoot one??? they are the most beautiful things with wings.
