Description

In no way is this intended as an insult to our men and women in the armed forces or those who died on that tragic day in September; nor am I condoning the horrific acts perpetrated by those of terrorist originations through out our world in any way. What I am doing is voicing my own satirical criticism of the misinformation my government fed and is still feeding its citizens via her pro-propaganda machinery. Growing up in New York City I was privileged to be of age during the building of the World Trade Center. I can tell ya how long before they were even built learning bout coming tread center while still in grade school. The one thing I, any New Yorker, or American citizen for that matter can tell you, is the belief that our skies, our homes, places of work, worship, and play were safe, that no harm would become us as we went about our daily routines. You questions are well asked. With it's faults, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world though. "RAMADI, Iraq (AP) - Peering over piles of sandbags, U.S. Marines sometimes see more gunmen on the streets than municipal employees coming to work. The provincial governor regularly arrives at his office - with armed guards in tow. But young Marines notice few others on his staff trail behind." Today's AP article goes on to describe the empty government building in Ramdi because the Iraqi provencial government is afraid to go to work and help their own home land. "Damn the dogs of war!" Same terrorist have completely eliminated free speech, government, and thinking in their home lands.

I recall some nightmares during the early 60's with the Cuban Crisis that was pretty frightening! But, I agree with you Wholely regarding the poor quality of imformation being fed the American Public, but I blame that more on Yellow Journalizm; at least half & half!

Elliot, is there a safety zone? Do you think during the fall of one of the greatest empires in our history (Rome) people felt it could never happen to them? The media is just that, media. One must always read between the lines and NEVER, I repeat, NEVER rely on anyone to take care of you, but you and well maybe some comfort from a close friend.. :=) 'Love that sky!

I do understand your question! In a nation as powerful as ours, we take it for granted that we can not be touched by outside evil. But the truth is we are and always will be vulnerable. Imho, I would say we are now even more vulnerable then we were before we invaded Iraq. A powerful piece, and a powerful message!

Stark and elegant. There are important points to keep repeating, and most Americans either never knew them or have forgot: (1) 911 was the SECOND ATTEMPT to destroy the World Trade Center, which makes your questions even more poignant; (2) Osama bin Laden was an ally of the Americans in war against the Soviets in Afghanistan; (2) Bin Laden and other Wahhabists were enemies of Saddam Hussein, head of by far the most secular regime in the Near East (including Israel), and was not welcome in Iraq; (3) Iraq was never involved with "terrorists", but Syria, the elder Bush's ally against Hussein in the first Iraq war was, and was also allied to fundamendalist Iran; (4) Hussein and Iraq were enemies of Iran, which country was also involved with terrorism, and Hussein had just managed a victory against that country in the Iran-Iraq war, which lasted ten years and was on the scale of World War I; (5) Kuwait was side drilling into Iraqi and disputed territory when Hussein attacked Kuwait and Kuwait was not an American ally; (6)April Glaspie, American ambassador to Iraq, in effect invited Hussein to invade Kuwait, when Hussein asked what the American reaction would be; (6)Osama bin Laden and other Wahhabists were in the Balkans, with American knowledge, fighting with the Albanian Muslims against the Serbians in Cliinton's moronic war; (7) the Serbs and Hussein were demonized by the same propaganda machine; (8) Bin Laden and the Wahhabist fundamentalists are allies of the Chechens, whom the Americans have now and then been encouraging in their "terrorism" against the Russian Federation....and this is just skimming the surface....

The simplicity of this scene has a greater impact then if you had filled the scene with useless other objects. The starkness speaks volumnes as well as your words and a look into your life while living in New York. Thank you for sharing your insight and providing thought provoking questions. 5+++ Elliot
