And they built monument before crossing the purifying waters into the Promise Land, or maybe some decided to go back later and build it.
In some yet to be discovered part of the desert, buried beneath the wastelands is a monument, a bit of archaeological graffiti denoting the exact spot were they stood when first gazing out and looking upon the Promised Land after their voyage through the wilderness. Maybe one day some historical scientist will find a temple or its remains, maybe they will only find a rock with the words
