Description

Hi everybody just returned from my homeland in Cornwall from a few days holiday to celebrate my Mothers 80th birthday, and went down to St Agnes to take this shot, I went with my Brother-In Law Nigel and gave a bit of a scare having found it very hard going on my return from the bottom of the cliff a steep 400 to 500 foot descent with all my camera gear!! A cave beneath this climb looked too risky to get down to the beach.. Taken with a Canon 5D AND 17-40mm L zoom f16@ 250th ISO 250 St. Agnes Mining District Now part of a world heritage site much of the world owes a great debt for the engineering that took place here, and formed such a huge part in the industrial revolution. Wheal Coates - just north of the pretty cove of Chapel Porth, in the distance you can see a few bathers who had walked down from the winding path in the distance on the left, the engine house for this mine is half way down a cliff, and is so spectacular that it is invariably used in most photographs of Cornish mines. This mine produced mainly tin, and is around 250 feet above the sea. Started in 1872, when the Towanroath engine houses for winding and the stamps were built. The mine was only worked until 1889 when it closed, and attempt to re-open was made in 1911, but it was finally closed in 1914. Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

I like the pattern of the sky and the sea. Very pleasant emptiness of the space. Good composition.

What a beautiful capture. I thought it was on old church on the thumb! I'm glad that the local folks want to save the history.
