Description

Ok, I know it's just steam, but St Helens is still erupting, so many years after the big one. The mound below the steam in this picture is the dome that she's currently building. Just to the right of the center of the picture you may see a bit more steam, right above the dark shadow. Whenever some snowmelt makes its way down to hot enough rock, it flashes to steam and creates a little poof. This shot was from the same spot as yesterday's; I just turned 90 degrees to the right. This was as close to the mountain as we could get; we hiked a trail about two miles from the visitors' center to get there.

Very nice shot, Dennis. I took this same shot and about 20 more. :) Just couldn't help it... it is so amazing to be actually standing right there, and that is quite a hike, isn't it?

A fantastic view, Dennis. I've seen some pictures on TV, but none even close to the quality of this! Awesome work!

What a fantastic shot! It's quite a majestic sight. I've always lived near the Appalachains, and I have seen the Alps, but a live volcano must be a thrill.
