Description

This is my favourite of the small turtle doves, the Diamond Dove is sometimes known as the Little Dove and the Little Turtle Dove. The Diamond Dove is one of the smallest of the Australian doves, weighing only 23 to 27 grams and has a length of 193 to 213 mm. It has a grey body and the adult bird has white diamond specks on its wings. The eyes of the adult bird are set off by a pronounced orange ring. The adult birds can often be sexed by the thickness of the eye ring and the colour of their wing feathers. The males have a silver grey colour and an orange or red eye ring of 2-3 mm in thickness after an age of one year. The females tend toward a brown grey colour and have an eye ring of about 1 mm in thickness. Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make..

A dove that tiny? Wow! It sure looks cute...even though its wearing a batman-mask of some kind around its eyes, lol. Perfect DOF and i love the composition. I read an article about bird-photography yesterday and it said that one major "rule" to bird-photography was that the bird "has to" occupy at least 1/3 of the composition whether its shot that way or cropped afterwards. But i think you proved with this photo that rules are meant to be broken. Have a great sunday. #:O)

I assume then that this is a male. We can use it for behavior studies in peace flights. Will male aggresiveness assert itself and demand to carry the banner?

Turtle doves are amoung my favorites. This is a beautiful shot! Great clarity and DOF. I used to watch a pair coming to drink at our fish pond in the evening and was always touched by their gentleness and caring for each other. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

I was thinking that's what caused the ripple Joe mentioned...What a beautiful little bird.I love doves...there is something so sweet-looking about them.Beautiful photo,Danny.I like this composition very much.I thought Andreas' comment was interesting. If that is some sort of bird photography 'rule' then you have successfully shown there is an exception to every rule.Well done.-M :^)

How does it not fly away or do you have a good zoom lense or what ever they call them lol! I'm only asking because another artist who does poser took their first nature shot and posted it. It was quite blurred and they where sad because it kept flying off this was a butterfly anyway this is amazing :) Cathy xoxoxo
