Description

This one isn't done, but I think its worthy of a post. I have been pushing the Bryce envelope on terrains and textures. I have been using Bryce for ten years now and I think I am finally getting some of it mastered. Its daunting to think of starting again by learning Vue, Lightwave, Cinema 4d etc. But I want to expand my tools to get past the Bryce limits, anyone have any suggestions of a tool that would fit my style? Hope you like this one so far. Bryce 5, Free castles from here. Photoshop for lighting only - all things seen are from the Bryce render with no postwork painting (yet).

This looks like an oil painting. I marvel at all the different terrains combined so skillfully, plus that magnificent atmosphere! Those clouds remind me of the old masters' works in museums. I just can't say enough about the quality and expertise this work displays. It's truly stunning!! Outstanding!

I'm thinking, it's time to harness the dragons and fly to this uncharted island tip top retreat. Man oh man the hand glide trip to the bottom. Well done as always Brian.

oh man you never cease to amaze and take us on an incredible journey in each pic. I feel like I am astride a dragon winging my way home. Great work. I like the way the eye travels beyond the castle and into the background. Lovely work. Jenny.

Simply the best and you certainly have mastered Bryce. I would say try all the softwares where possible and use the one that you feel more comfortable with. you may produce results in certain packages where others may fail. As much as the software is there to work for you I beleive your own talents are what make the final results outsatanding. you only have to look at your work here to know that. I ain't no master of softwares and not yet capable of the results you are producing although I do have eight years to catch up with you (ha! ha1). Once again fanatastic Work.

this is stunning for a work in progress.can't wait to see the finished version! good luck on working with a new programme, it's something i've toyed with but have not had the courage to do (yet!) hopefully you will not forget bryce altogether as i (and i'm sure many others) look upon your work as a milestone and something we would hope to aspire to.

Gorgeous work here. I am amazed at the texture of the rockface, how do you do that??? I would be curious to learn!!! As for other software. If you go Vue, wait till Vue 6 comes out later in this third quarter of the year. Also, alot of movies do landscapes is Lightwave, Maya and 3DS Max. The later 2 are expensive but Lightwave is not so bad at $795

Thelby - The texturing on the rock face is made from a digital photo I took of rocks along I-45, or was it I-35, in Southern Oklahoma. You know where they blast through the mountains (or hills) for the freeway, leaving a nice rocky wall on either side (you can even see the dynamite holes in places if you look close at the photo. Then of course, I tweaked its scaling and lighting until it looked right in the scene. Embeding multiple terrains with different textures to make the whole mountain. This is a method I came up with to make the rocks seem to jut out of the grassy parts for more realism.
