Kai (short_ribs) did the post work on this one too. Interesting conclusion: The results of sharpening yielded different results in the grass and leave textures when done in PhotoShop compared to PhotoImpact. In this case the leaves turned out to be like a watercolor painting - has anybody else noticed such differences?

About the scenery: This is the Kalahari desert. A Shepherd's tree (Boscia albitrunca) is clinging on for dear life as the wind is slowly eroding the sand to open up its roots...

I would think the watercolor-look was achieved when he later used a noiseremoval software. And not the result from sharpening. Im just guessing though. Its a gorgeous piece of work by the way...from both of you. You captured a perfect composition to begin with. And i really like those muted tones. Have a great day buddy. #:O)

Such an intersting effect! I have noticed that Photoshop and PhotoFiltre yield different results. I suppose all programs have some minor differences. I was also surprised at the exposed roots - in the rain forests here the same thing happens, but for a different reason. Trees sometimes start their life on top of a fallen log. Gradually their roots grow around the log and down to the earth and as the log rots away, they are left "standing on tiptoe."

Very peaceful image and gentle pastels. PS is such a powerful image editor it does give so many more options for postwork than anything else I know.

Nice composition of that arid and hardly hospitable territory. Good depth of field. The mottled soil in the foreground looks interesting. Actually, I don't perceive any painted effect....am I missing something?

It's a great shot! It's a bit desaturated for me, but it works in this shot. Excellent mood and feel to it. Well done! :)
