Description

Reworked version of a previously posted render, but with some noticable changes, mainly to the background mountains, which are now procedural terrains. (I'm still learning how to tamper those - grrrRRR - running through the samples on the CD's don't seem to give enough answers - GROWL and GRRRR again). The lighting is now with Global Illumination. Also a few changes in the ecosystems scaling, and - for variety - the final render was flipped horizontally in Photoshop :) 10 hrs. render in "Broadcast" with GI. Toolbox etc. (pasted from first version): "Vue5I render, all objects made by me: Onyxtree for the trees, Bantam3D "Grass" for the grass AND the stones & pebbles (brilliant little freeware program!). The river water is made from a terrain with a custom made "ripples" bitmap function applied (not just bumps) and a sligthly colourized default water material. Photoshop for colour/levels correction, framing and signature." Since I really like this scene I decided to make this "improved" version, for my own sake and for "promotion" purposes - first version wasn't quite there IMHO. Thanks for viewing - comments etc. very much welcome and appreciated. Have a nice day - Lars

Woah, that's just amazing! I have tempered a bit with BantamGrass myself, too. Just one question: With so many nice grasspacks around for Poser and Vue now, what do you think are the actual advantages of making new custom grass with BantamGrass for scenes like this one? What's more, for those who have Vue 5 infinite, what's again the advantage of using that scatterdd pebble function of BantamGrass instead of trowing infinite rocks into the scene instead? This one uses up much more ram, doesn't it? Just curious. The result of your work speaks for itself, but why did you choos ethat path?

Wow, really nice! I'm with you on the whole procedural terrain thing-- just about impossible to master, even with the tutorials at Cornucopia. I'm praying V6 will do a better job. Lately, I've taken to importing grayscales from Terragen for mountains. Too bad Vue went 90% of the way, but didn't close the deal. Good stuff! Should print out really well.

Excellent as usual but the background procedural terrains. Is there any texturing on those ? Elsewhere thank you for your grass materials.

Hey, posting photos is not fair! :o))) Cool work for sure! (Well the mountains in the background could use some more work, but that's just nagging about trifles)

I just love the image and have been to places like that in the Alps. Moving or flowing water is always a special problem, but this looks very nice, and large number and varitey of the pebbles really make this 'real'.
